Increase demand from Turkey for UK recovered paper
The Turkish recycling industry has risen from around 1.5 million tonnes to 4.5 million tonnes in just 10 ten years. It is predicted to increase a further 2 million tonnes over the next three years. However, there have been concerns about the quality of the paper coming from the UK.
Studies have shown that used cardboard tends to be of a higher quality compared to the quality of the paper along with the moisture content. The issue with having a higher than average moisture content in the paper is that the fibres of the paper increase in size and may become limp.
In recent times China would buy most of the world waste, however due to coronavirus they have shut their doors. This means that as the market has become smaller and buyers focus on buying quality product and to minimise cost.
STE Waste Management offers a full paper shredding, collection and recycling service around Manchester and Cheshire. All paper is 100% recycled and will be for the foreseeable future.
