Preparing for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Get Ready for the GDPR by May 2018

Here at STE Waste the handling and destruction of data through commercial paper shredding and hard drive destruction is part of our core business.

That's why we have a vested interest in any matter relating to data privacy regulation. As such, we've taken an active lead in promoting the importance for local businesses in Manchester, Cheshire and across the UK to ensure they're prepared for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) before it comes into place from 25th May 2018.

Many of the main concepts and principles of the GDPR are similar to those in the current Data Protection Act (DPA).

Therefore if you are complying properly with the current law then most of your approach to compliance will remain valid under the GDPR and can be the starting point to build from.

However, there are new elements and significant enhancements, so you will have to do some things for the first time and some things differently compared to your current working practice.

We recommend businesses follow the official 12 point checklist below and other Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) resources to work out the main differences between the current law and the GDPR, then act on their insight in order to remain compliant.
